Winners Happy Birthday Sue 3

Peter’s pub quiz on Feb 1st was a great success! A packed room, eight teams, a prize of over £50 and a victory snatched by one point made for an exciting quiz night.  Winners were ‘Happy Birthday Sue’ (pictured), a regular group who won a few weeks ago.  Claire and Lucie are involved in the campaign to save historic gay venue Royal Vauxhall Tavern, where a group has succeeded in getting it recognised as an Outstanding Community Asset and is now trying to raise the £2.5 million needed to buy it.  It’s very much the same process as acquired the Ivy House.  Fingers crossed.  Anyone interested in more information can write to me at homopromos@googlemail.com.  (You can also email this address to get on the quiz mailing list.)
And the name ‘Happy Birthday Sue?’  It was meant to be a nice surprise, but Sue didn’t turn up.  Bitch.
Next Peter quiz is 1st March, which will have a slight female slant, in honour of International Women’s Day on 8th March.

Southwark LGBT Pride Festival -JUNE 24th to JULY 9th

Print

LGBT Pride is coming!  The Parade is in Central London on Saturday July 9th, and will be ENORMOUS.  (Seehttp://prideinlondon.org/events/2017/07/08/parade)  As part of this, Pride in London is running, and encouraging others to run, community and arts events large and small across London June 24th to July 9th, under the umbrella Pride in London.

Homo Promos Theatre Company and the Ivy House are contributing to this with a Southwark LGBT Pride Festival mainly based at the Ivy House, but with other events taking place elsewhere.  It will consist of theatre, cabaret, films, quizzes and other events, some of which are still being planned.

Highlights so far:  A London-wide Quiz Contest called the Capital Quiz; the premiere of a classic gay film long thought lost, called ‘David is Homosexual’, made in Lewisham in 1976; pioneering LGBT Rights/Equalities campaigner and 1980spolitician Linda Bellos in conversation; a community play about the last 2 men hanged for sodomy in Britain, performed outside the house where they were arrested; and a very special Special Guest whose very name will recall the days of the 1970sand 80s when the Ivy House was in its glory days as a music venue.
